MEMORIES

Ø AOM Ch. Nakuma's Sgt. Pepper of Kumakura "Max" (Ch. Toshimi's Missionary Max x Obi-San's Coca-Cola Classic) -- Max was our first show dog and he gave us many things to be proud -- like being owner-handled to his championship as a youngster, to becoming the #7 Akita 1993. Thanks to Godfrey Polistina for his assistance with campaigning Max.  Max, daughter, Mini, and granddaughter, Blaze, were the winners of the first ever Three-Generation Maturity class at the 1993 Akita Club of America National Specialty.  Max had excellent movement and type, an incredible bear head and terrific temperament, traits he passed on to his offspring.  Max was Best Veteran at the 1996 and 1997 ACA National Specialties, and achieved an Award of Merit in 1997.

Max was a once in a lifetime friend--the kind of dog everyone should be lucky enough to have own you!  We were very lucky with Max, he was never sick one day in his life.  Max crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on July 5, 2002.  He would have been 13 years old on August 31st.

Ø Ch. Kumakura's Mini Mischiefmaker "Mini" (Ch. Nakuma's Sgt. Pepper of Kumakura x Majik's Kabuki Doll) -- Mini was our first homebred champion.  She was a multiple best of breed winner, and also won BISS Brace and BIS Brace  with her daughter, Blaze.  Mini was producer of champions, and along with her get won Best Brood Bitch at the 1993 ACA Region Specialty held in Chicago.  Mini crossed over the Rainbow's Bridge in 2000.

Ø Ch. Kumakura's Blaze O'Glory "Blaze" - (BIS Ch. Goshen's Chariots O'Fire, ROMPX x Ch. Kumakura's Mini Mischiefmaker) -- Blaze was the ugly duckling who turned into the beautiful swan, or in this case, akita.  As a 13 week old pup, you would never have believed she was even an akita--she looked like a terrier or some kind of mixed breed.  As Blaze matured, she turned into a beautiful bitch.  She won her first major at 9 months old, and finished her championship at 14 months of age--the day after winning Best in Sweepstakes at the 1993 ACA Region III Specialty held in Chicago, all Breeder-Owner handled.  Blaze ended up being the #3 Akita Bitch in 1994!!  She had multiple best of breeds and group placements, and BIS and BISS Brace with her mother, Mini.  Blaze also won Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 1996.  We lost Blaze to a brain tumor shortly thereafter.

Ø Ch. Kumakura's Ghost Rider "Casper" - (BIS Ch. Goshen's Chariots O'Fire, ROMPX x Ch. Kumakura's Mini Mischiefmaker),-- Casper was a full littermate to Blaze.  He finished his championship with three majors, shown by our daughter, Kristi, and won multiple bests of breed.  Casper was my big ole' wussy dog, and the sweetest guy.  Casper's genetic makeup was not the best.  He had some autoimmune problems and allergies that made life outside for Casper difficult, therefore he had to stay inside the house the majority of the time.  Casper died of bloat at age 7.
